Preparing Yourself for a Piercing

Preparing Yourself for a Piercing

Ear piercing

Sometimes getting a piercing can seem really scary. Most people hear horror stories about piercings from their friends, or simply, “It hurt!” This leads to most of the clients walking through our door being incredibly nervous when they don’t have to be. A little bit of preparation goes a long way when it comes to getting your dream piercing, so here’s a few tips to help you learn how to prepare for a piercing.

My best, #1, can't-stress-this-enough, advice before getting a piercing is to eat. Make sure you have a filling meal about an hour (or so, it doesn't have to be exact) before you go in for a piercing. It helps stabilize your blood sugar and keeps you from fainting or throwing up afterwards. I mean, you're kind of getting stabbed so you might as well do it on a full stomach, right?

It’s also good to keep in mind that you want to be as healthy as possible before getting a piercing. This basically means: Please don’t come in when you have a cold. When your body is already trying to heal itself, you’ll put yourself at a disadvantage healing your piercing. If you find that you’ve made an appointment but come down with something, it’s perfectly fine to ask to reschedule; it’ll be better for everyone involved.

Other than that, it's important to think about what you're going to wear. Loose-fitting clothing or a shirt that unbuttons are incredibly helpful - and not only with below-the-neck piercings. Trust me, catching your new nose or cartilage piercing on your t-shirt a few hours after getting it done is just not worth it. Think ahead!

During your piercing appointment, feel free to ask your piercer any questions you might have. They're there to decorate you how you want, and if you're uncomfortable they want to help and make you feel more confident. If you start feeling dizzy, or faint, or just want to keep sitting there for a couple minutes - that's cool. It's way better to sit there and sip on some water than trying to tough it out and ending up falling on your face.

Bottom line, make sure you feel great before you come in and your piercing will be easy-peasy! If you want to know more about how to prepare for a piercing, contact Avanti and speak with our consultants today!
