Amboyna Burl comes from the Padauk trees of Southeast Asia. Padauk trees are quite common but the burl is extremely rare. The amboyna is usually a deep red, although the more rare moudui burl is the same species but the color is from golden yellow to yellow-orange.
Burl is a tree growth in which the grain grows in a deformed manner, this is usually caused by some sort of stress or injury caused to the tree during its adolescents. Burl can have many different patterns like wavy grain to little circular eye like patterns.
